Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was born on December 15th, 1832 in Dijon, France. In his
lifetime, he was well known as a designer and builder of bridges, viaducts, and
railways many of which are still standing. However, he is best known for his work
on the internal structure of the Statue of Liberty, a gift from France to the United
States, and his masterpiece, the Eiffel Tower. Eiffel had an uncanny knack for math
and science, and is still considered by many to be one of the greatest architect/engineers
of all time. Later in life, he also became an authority on aerodynamics. He died in 1923.
